Chief Diversity Officer

Position Summary:

Title:               Chief Diversity Officer

Supervisor:      President

Location:         While ABC staff are currently working remotely, the job is preferred to be located in the Greater Washington, DC, Metro area

Submission Deadline:  September 15, 2020

American Bird Conservancy (ABC) is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to conserving wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. We are seeking a Chief Diversity Officer to help us build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce. The Officer will lead efforts to integrate equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) into our work throughout the hemisphere, as well as to partner with other organizations to promote diversity in birding, bird conservation, and across the bird community, in order to affect positive change throughout the bird conservation world.

Primary Duties:

The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) will be responsible for cultivating an ABC work environment that encourages and supports diversity, creating strategies to recruit and maintain a diverse ABC team; devising new roles to support EDI within ABC’s ongoing work; and helping to integrate EDI goals into our communications, membership, and outreach programs — because ABC believes that everyone should have the opportunity to improve the world for birds, and to enjoy the many benefits of conservation. The Chief Diversity Officer will be part of the ABC Management Team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and creative professional who aspires to catalyze lasting positive change in the conservation sector, which has historically been among the least diverse in the not-for-profit world. An interest in birds or wildlife conservation is important, but experience in those fields is not a requirement.

Position Requirements:

The ideal applicant will speak Spanish and have a minimum of three years of work experience in a relevant field such as EDI-related programs, community engagement and communications, and/or member and partner interactions. The applicant should be interested in working with a broad range of staff, partners, and stakeholders to encourage a dynamic and inclusive environment for people from all backgrounds.

ABC offers a competitive benefits package with health coverage, paid vacation, sick leave, 403b matching contribution, and much more.

American Bird Conservancy values qualifications and competence.  As an equal opportunity employer; ABC is committed to ensuring the employees and applicants for employment have equal opportunities.
